What we do

BUILD

Cabled bridges and structures are sustainable, environmentally friendly and architecturally outstanding structures. Cables are the best solution for reducing the weight of bridges while increasing their span, thus saving materials and reducing environmental footprint. They also reduce construction times. These key benefits, along with continued improvements in the technology over the past few years, are why bridge owners are so keen to use them.

The post-tensioning technique involves installing and tensioning tendons in a concrete element, thereby applying compressive stress to the material. This compensates for the tensile stress that the concrete may undergo as a result of external loads and reduces or eliminates deformation and cracking.

Designed to span gaps between structural elements, expansion joints are necessary to absorb movement, accommodate shrinkage and creep effects, deformation under vehicle load and changes in temperature on concrete, steel or composite structures, particularly on bridge decks and traffic areas of buildings. Applications: bridges, footbridges, railway bridges, buildings.

The forces acting on bridges are multiple and of various origins: structure’s weight, shrinkage and creep, wind loads, temperature changes, traffic loads, horizontal loads such as accelerating, braking or skidding, impact forces due to collisions, support sagging, seismic forces, etc. Freyssinet bearings are designed to ensure that loads are transferred between the superstructure and the substructure and that they enable movement and rotation of the superstructure.

Pioneer in the development of earthquake protection devices, Freyssinet offers a complete range of dedicated products and associated services marketed under the well-known ISOSISM® brand. Applications: Bridges, Stadiums, Water infrastructures, Energy infrastructures, Viaducts.

Lifting and handling heavy structures are complex operations. We deliver tailored solutions adapted to each project configuration, from early design to final operation. Heavy handling includes: heavy lifting, which consists in moving a structure or a load vertically, sliding, which involves the horizontal shift of a structure or a load, rotation sometimes, when the operation also entails a change in orientation of the structure.

We are a multidisciplinary partner providing turnkey solutions for structural equipment and erection of bridge decks, and increasingly, for the installation of the entire structure, including piers, deck and finishing works.

Ground anchors are one of the first applications of Freyssinet technologies, with for example the stabilisation of a dam in Algeria as early as 1939. Drawing on this long experience, we offer geotechnics expert solutions and services to companies carrying out ground stabilization works.

Hydraulic infrastructures need waterproofing barriers that are deformable, able to withstand displacements, and durable. Geomembranes offer a number of advantages. Within the Freyssinet Group, the major specialist in waterproofing geomembranes is Carpi, which is a Swiss-based subsidiary with extremely international activities. Carpi geomembrane waterproofing solutions differ depending on the type of structure, the loads involved and the specific requirements of each project. The geomembrane installed over the entire surface of the structure in contact with water can be fully exposed, partially or fully covered, or installed as an external water stop at the joints.

REPAIR

Bridges are the original heritage of Freyssinet. What is less well known is that we started our foray into structural repair more than 30 years ago. It was a natural progression to start this journey with bridges as these were the structures we understood and involved clients we knew. We are now a true solution provider in bridge repair often acting as the principal company.

Freyssinet has the technology to protect, repair, strengthen and maintain the structures that are essential to our daily lives. Freyssinet’s repair methods and solutions all come under the Foreva® label. From analysis to design and implementation, it guarantees a service adapted to your needs. Like many materials, concrete can degrade over time due to a number of factors. Identifying and understanding the underlying cause of structural problems is essential to implementing the correct remediation technique, which allows the concrete to be repaired in a more sustainable manner and extends the life of the structure.

With Foreva® solutions and turnkey service, we improve the performance of your assets in terms of structural safety, ease of maintenance and durability. The objective is to increase the strength of a structure so that it can withstand dynamic loads that were not originally intended, without the structure having been modified during its lifetime or after repair. Our expertise in structural strengthening and repair applies to Bridges, Buildings, Heritage structures, Industrial facilities, Port & waterway structures, Tunnels & culverts, Water infrastructures.

To extend the life of structures exposed to aggressive environments, we offer corrosion protection solutions to prevent or mitigate corrosion of steel reinforcement in concrete. Corrosion of steel reinforcement is the main cause of deterioration of concrete structures. If left untreated, corrosion can lead to a reduction in the structure’s load-bearing capacity and, in the worst case, to the complete failure of a section, resulting in significant repair costs and endangering public safety. Freyssinet offers an appropriate solution to your corrosion problems, tailored to your objectives and schedule, to each type of structure, its condition and its environment – underground, atmospheric or marine (bridges, buildings, berths, jetties, pipelines, tanks, tunnels, etc.).

From proposing a seismic protection strategy to delivering and installing systems designed, manufactured and tested in-house, we offer turnkey solutions for retrofit, seismic strengthening and post-earthquake repair projects of existing structures. The main objective of seismic protection is to ensure maximum protection of the population, to guarantee the continued operation of all emergency services and to maintain the continuity of operation of major infrastructures. We offer infrastructure operators technical solutions for seismic strengthening projects, both for standard buildings (single-family homes, apartment buildings, schools, hospitals, offices, etc.) and for large structures such as dams, bridges and industrial plants.

As a specialist contractor in the maintenance of bridge structural components, Freyssinet assists you in inspecting and assessing degraded elements of roadway expansion joints and replacing them in order to restore traffic safety for road or motorway operator and users. Maintenance of expansion joints may be necessary in several cases: Routine maintenance work as part of a maintenance contract, Emergency repair to quickly restore of traffic safety, Simultaneous intervention with other carriageway maintenance works, such as resurfacing of road sections

Freyssinet has developed a comprehensive range of technical solutions and services for the maintenance and repair of all types of stay cables and suspension cable systems. Damage or corrosion of strand cables, damage or deterioration of the cable outer covering, water ingress, failure of corrosion protectionat the anchorages, change in load, non-functioning dampers.

We restore damaged timber structures while minimising operations that might detract from the authenticity of the old elements. Freyssinet restores damaged wooden elements, reinforces structures and protects them, while minimising operations that could harm the authenticity of the old elements or the operation of the structure.

Because many industrial plants are now reaching or have exceeded the end of their initial service life, there is an increasingly pressing need to deploy robust systems for monitoring the integrity of the ageing civil engineering infrastructure on these sites. An effective structural integrity management system is the most important defence against catastrophic failure at complex industrial plants.
